Birlesik Arap Emirlikleri, guvenligi, ozellikle de oyuncunun guvenligini gerekce gosterek, katilmaya hak kazandigi bir turnuvada Israilli Sharar Peer'a vize vermeyince ortalik karisti.

Turnuva sozcusu, "Public sentiment remains high in the Middle East and it is believed that Ms Peer's presence would have antagonised our fans who have watched live television coverage of recent attacks in Gaza." diyerek mevzuyu acinca basta WTA turnuvalarinin hayata gecmesine oncu olan isim Billie Jean King olmak uzere eski ve yeni tenis oyunculari birbirleri ardina aciklamalar yaptilar.

Venus Williams "She shouldn't be denied, it's not right, she's just a person. We are all people, no matter where we are from" dedi.

King ise boyle vurdu:"In the 21st century there is no reason a person should be restricted from doing his or her job because of their nationality, creed, race, gender or sexual orientation."

Butun bu tartismalar soyle dursun, turnuvada bir de vaka-i adiye var. Flying Dutchman tarafindan dunyanin bir numarali teniscisi olarak sifatlandirilan "Çarli" kilikli Jelena Jankovic, Estonyali Kaia Kanepi'ye elenerek turnuvayi kapadi.
